Today, one of the most recognized and respected architects in the world turns 83: Álvaro Siza Vieira. Awarded the Pritzker Prize in 1992, the Portuguese architect charmed the jury at the time, who explained their choice by saying: “his forms, shaped by light, appear deceptively simple, they are honest.”

Architecture photographer, Fernando Guerra, has been accompanying Siza for a few years recording not only his built work, but also his work process, capturing with his lens the “deceptive simplicity” of projects like the Boa Nova Tea House and the Leça Swimming Pools.

In celebration of Siza’s birthday, Guerra has shared with us a series of portraits of Siza taken both in Portugal and during several business trips. The photos show a fully active architect, with the marks of time and decades of dedication to architecture stamped on his face.
